TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids, and is a measure of the combined content of all inorganic and organic substances contained in water. It includes minerals, salts, metals, cations, anions, and any other dissolved substances. TDS is usually expressed in parts per million (ppm).

TDS in water can come from various sources, including natural processes like weathering of rocks, as well as human activities such as agricultural runoff, industrial discharges, and wastewater effluent.

When we refer to your TDS, we simply mean your water quality before a pure water system is involved.

The closer to 0 your TDS reading is, the less mineral content present, the more spot-free your results will be cleaning windows or solar panels.

If you are in an area that has an average TDS that measures below 100, you have soft water. A single stage DI tank will be sufficient to achieve pure water for spot-free cleaning.

If your average TDS is 100 or higher, we will recommend a multi-stage system, which will be more cost-effective for you in the long run. With resin combined with specific filters, your system can will have a very low daily cost. Use the chart above to determine if your TDS is over 100 ppm.

If you have hard water and choose a single-stage system, you will burn your resin up very quickly, which will eventually add up and be much more costly than investing in a proper multi-stage system.
